CSG Consultants had the opportunity to step outside of project work and into something even more rewarding — sharing the world of civil engineering with young learners at Noddin Elementary School. Our visit introduced nearly 80 first-grade students across four classrooms to what civil engineers do and why their work matters in everyday life.

A lively presentation featured the expertise of staff engineers Hatem Ahmed and Heba Masri, who delivered real-life examples to help students understand complex ideas in a simple, relatable way.

The session was structured as an interactive scenario that encouraged questions, curiosity, and participation throughout. Students learned what civil engineers design and build, and how creativity and problem-solving are essential parts of the job.
Supporting the presentation were CSG’s Tiffany Redden and Stephanie Shaw, who helped ensure students stayed engaged during both the presentation and activity portions of the visit.
The highlight of the morning was a hands-on STEM challenge where the students became engineers themselves. Using gumdrops and toothpicks, each student designed and built structures that could stand on their own.

The activity introduced foundational engineering concepts such as:
The room was filled with excitement as designs rose (and sometimes fell), followed by redesigns, collaboration, and active problem-solving. The activity made abstract engineering principles tangible in a way that was both fun and memorable.

Career Day at Noddin Elementary offered an opportunity not just to teach, but to inspire. By connecting engineering concepts to hands-on learning, the CSG team helped students see how engineers contribute to the world around them. They learned that they, too, can be creators and problem-solvers.
To be honest, we may have just met a few future engineers. We were genuinely impressed by the enthusiasm and early talent on display.
