Summary

The Senior Environmental Planner/CEQA Project Manager is a full-time position in the Planning Services Group and specifically with the Environmental Planning Practice. The Environmental Practice is experiencing steady growth, as we advise and work with existing CSG agency clients and explore new pathways to grow with agencies throughout California. The Senior Environmental Planner/CEQA Project Manager position involves managing projects, overseeing a variety of CEQA compliance assignments, exploring new growth opportunities for our team, and serving in a vital leadership position with the Practice.

We are seeking individuals experienced in preparing and managing environmental documentation and CEQA processes. The ideal candidate has strong management skills involving a variety of project types, marketing, and business development experience, has mentored, and partnered/collaborated with team members and has excellent writing and communications skills. The position is based in the CSG Orange office and there is the opportunity to work remotely, in coordination with the Director of Environmental Planning.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a Project Manager on projects and proposal pursuits.
  • Preparation of environmental documentation for various types of development, infrastructure, and policy projects.
  • Management and preparation of categorical exemptions, initial studies/mitigated negative declarations, EIR’s, related CEQA compliance studies and special studies in accordance with CEQA and sometimes NEPA.
  • Confirm requirements of CEQA are met by completing analysis and documentation within specific guidelines.
  • Ensure client satisfaction, serving in the role of primary client contact and QA/QC for CEQA deliverables.
  • Focus on project success by creating and committing to appropriate schedules, scopes, and budget.
  • Seek team and client success by managing existing workload, anticipating future workload and appropriately prioritizing deadlines.
  • Thorough knowledge of and demonstrated capabilities with written and verbal business English, spelling, grammar, and vocabulary.
  • Incorporate sub-consultant reports and personal research and knowledge into appropriate sections of environmental documents.
  • Ability to multi-task on assignments and to be flexible with the range of assignments.
  • Perform a wide range of duties to help fulfill the environmental services group’s growth and development. Actively contribute and roles on proposals, administrative and production assignments.
  • Maintain personal and team excellence by actively seeking feedback, encourage creativity and implementing innovative ideas.
  • Ability to multi-task and to be flexible with the range of assignments.
  • Participate in professional organizations such as APA and AEP.
  • Keen attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, geography, planning or related field (or in process).
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience with a government agency or firm in a field related to environmental analysis and reporting.
  • Familiar with CEQA and active roles in coordination and management of the various levels of study.
  • Understanding of the principles and practices of the environmental consulting industry, the CEQA Guidelines and applicable processing requirements.
  • Have exposure in working as a key technical leader, deputy project manager or project manager on environmental review/analysis assignments, working with clients and interdisciplinary teams and delivering quality reports on-time and within budget.
  • Technical competence and understanding of the one or more environmental specialties, such as land use, socioeconomics, earth resources, hydrology, air, noise, etc. This would include an extensive awareness of Appendix G of the CEQA Guidelines.
  • Background and understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Creative Cloud a plus.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to make creative and solutions-oriented recommendations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective communications skills.

  • General office environment with the opportunity for hybrid schedule from home as well.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to be flexible and overcome obstacles to complete tasks.
  • Regularly requires working in sitting position with computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel to client job sites.

 

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $95,000 – $185,000 per year
 
Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience and location.
