Summary

The Principal Engineer is responsible for the planning, management, supervision, and coordination of professional engineering work related to the design and construction of various sewer, water, and storm drain public works projects. The Principal Engineer leads multiple concurrent public works projects; supervises project staff, activities and tasks; coordinates project development and progress with clients; represents the firm during events and contract negotiations, mentors staff to foster professional development and provides technical support to internal and external stakeholders.

We are seeking a highly qualified Principal Engineer – Wet utilities Design to join our team in the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento Area.

Senior Engineers with less extensive experiences are also encouraged to apply

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers in all aspects of the design of projects including the plans, specifications, and estimate preparation for public works projects with a focus on wet utility improvements including water distribution and storage, wastewater collection, and storm drainage systems for public agencies.
  • Lead, assign, and review work of project delivery team; check work and progress and identify changes of scope and additional services.
  • Mentor, support and provide technical direction to other engineers.
  • Develop and oversee project budgets and schedules.
  • Cultivate and maintain client relationships.
  • Lead project pursuit efforts including proposal and interview preparation.
  • Participate as a visible and active member of the Public Works/Utility Communities through professional organization involvement.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 13 years of public works/utilities experience with increasing levels of supervisory responsibility.
  • 5+ years in a supervisory role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Current PE California License is required.
  • Strong track record of overseeing successful project delivery.
  • Strong communication skills including proposal writing and presentation skills.
  • Experience in coordinating with regulatory agencies.
  • Experience in the administration and management of public works projects.

  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment when dealing with deadlines and multiple projects.
  • Working with detailed, finely printed documents.
