Summary

Conduct comprehensive fire and life safety, Fire sprinkler and Fire alarm plan review services for Company’s clients, in accordance with the governing jurisdiction’s interpretations, policies and procedures. Consults with the jurisdiction to ensure compliance including local requirements and provide additional services as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Review plans and specifications of buildings, fire protection equipment and industrial processes, pursuant to Federal, State, and
  • Municipal fire protection codes, ordinances, and guidelines.
  • Interpret Federal and State fire protection codes, ordinances, and guidelines as to application of plans and educate all parties involved.
  • Through continuing education maintain expertise in current code and advancement in technology, materials, and methods of fire and life safety protection.
  • Compose concise written reports of deficiencies observed in plans and specifications to architects, engineers and applicants.
  • Comprehend or make inferences from written materials such as fire codes and ordinances.
  • Move and or carry light objects (less than 20 pounds).
  • Enter data or information into a terminal, PC, or other keyboard device.
  • Work cooperatively with other agency employees and the public.
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
  • Research problems, analyze various approaches and recommend solutions.
  • Attend meetings and conduct site visits of projects to ensure that fire and life safety requirements are met.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years’ experience performing Fire and Life Safety plans examination for a municipality or jurisdiction.
  • Certification as a Fire Plans Examiner CSFM or ICC Fire Plans Examiner.
  • Fire prevention classes from a junior college or state fire marshal’s office.
  • Knowledge of, and experience interpreting, National and State Fire Codes and Standards and local ordinances.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to explain interpretation and application of codes, ordinances, and guidelines.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Complex reading and comprehensive skills to read, comprehend and interpret California Code of Regulations, National and State Fire Codes and Standards, and local ordinances.
  • Ability to visually review construction drawings and read fine print documents for long periods of time.
  • Ability to use computer plan review software.
  • Strong written skills in order to communicate to architects, engineers and applicants in written comments, letters and other documents.
  • Knowledge of State Building Codes is desirable, but not required.
  • Critical decision-making skills and advanced analytical skills.
  • General word processing and computer skills.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to attend work and perform job duties on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license is required.

Working Conditions

  • Majority of time working alone.
  • Working at a desk for long periods of time.
