Location: Southern California, California

Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Associate Engineer to join our team in Southern California (Orange and/or Inland Empire offices). 

The Associate Engineer is a mid-level position in the engineering department, responsible for professional engineering work related to the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of various public works projects. Under direction and minimal supervision, an Associate Engineer performs complex engineering work and acts as supervisor to a small group of engineers and/or technical staff. Associate Engineers may serve as project engineers/resident engineers on small projects or assistant resident engineers on complex engineering projects. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop plans and specifications for the construction of public works improvement projects. 
  • Perform hydrology and hydraulics analysis. 
  • Perform street, storm drain and sewer design for public agencies. 
  • Knowledge of Standard Specification for public works Construction (commonly known as Green Book). 
  • Maintain knowledge of Caltrans design and construction standards. 
  • Prepare and/or analyze maps, plats, calculations, and field measurements. 
  • Develop and/or analyze cost estimates for civil engineering and land development projects. 
  • Review and process land development applications and submittals, including parcel and subdivision maps and improvement plans for conformance with local codes and design principles. 
  • Review and process right-of-way, grading or other permits required for public works projects. 
  • Analyze engineering reports, maps, drawings, tests, etc., on soil compositions, terrain, hydrological characteristics and other topographical and geologic data. 
  • Analyze complex engineering problems and issues. 
  • Develop and/or maintain databases, spreadsheets and reports to monitor performance of engineering or public works projects and/or operations. 
  • Administer public works’ construction contracts. 
  • Oversee work performed by our entry-level engineers. 
  • Develop project schedules and budgets. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university. 
  • Well versed in the principles and practices of engineering and applicable laws and codes related to public works projects with a high level of independent judgment. 
  • 3+ years of work experience as an Assistant Engineer or equivalent. 
  • Current PE California License or specialty certificates are highly desired. 
  • Experience with methods, materials and techniques used in the design and construction of public works projects. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license is required. 

Working Conditions

  • Driving to job sites and be able to walk in and through job sites for extended periods. 
  • Lifting and carrying equipment weighting up to 35 lbs. 
  • Sitting for extended periods of time. 
  • Working with detailed, finely printed documents. 
  • Capacity to work in fast paced environment when dealing with deadlines and multiple projects.
