Summary

The Associate Transportation Engineer is a mid-level position in the CSG’s Engineering Department, responsible for professional engineering work related to the planning, design, and construction maintenance of various public works projects including safe routes to schools, bicycle and pedestrian improvements, complete streets, pavement rehabilitation, trail improvements, intersections and roadways, and wet utilities. Under minimal supervision, the CSG Associate Engineer performs complex engineering work and acts as supervisor to a small group of engineers and/or technical staff. Associate Engineers may also serve as assistant project manager on complex engineering projects.

We are seeking a highly qualified Associate Engineer – Transportation Design to join our team in the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento Area.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of plans and specifications for the construction of public works transportation improvements.
  • Perform street, water, storm drain and sewer design for public agencies.
  • Maintain knowledge of Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (commonly known as Greenbook).
  • Maintain knowledge of Caltrans design and construction standards.
  • Lead development of cost estimates for civil engineering projects.
  • Review and process right-of-way, grading or other permits required for public works projects.
  • Analyze engineering reports, maps, drawings and hydrological data.
  • Oversee work performed by CSG’s entry-level engineers.
  • Develop project schedules and budgets.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Well-versed in the principles and practices of engineering and applicable laws and codes.
  • 3+ years of work experience as an Assistant Engineer or equivalent.
  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) license from the State of California or specialty certificates are desired but not required.
  • Experience with methods, materials and techniques used in the design and construction of public works projects.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment when dealing with deadlines and multiple projects.
