A busy Santa Clara intersection is safer and more accessible following a major improvement project recognized with a 2026 Project of the Year Award in the Transportation category for projects between $5 million and $25 million from the American Public Works Association (APWA) Silicon Valley Chapter.
The Great America Parkway and Mission College Boulevard intersection sits at the heart of daily life in Santa Clara. Mission College students and commuters rely on it each day, and it carries traffic bound for the Santa Clara Convention Center and Levi’s Stadium area. The $10 million improvement project widened the intersection to add turning lanes into the college and included pavement rehabilitation and overlay, traffic signal and streetlight upgrades, relocation and reconstruction of existing curb, sidewalk, and median, and bicycle and ADA improvements.
As a subconsultant to HDR Engineering, Inc., CSG supported the project with utility research and coordination, utility relocation plans, cost estimates, technical specifications, and QA/QC reviews. The work relocation of existing utilities to avoid potential conflicts with the proposed improvements and adjustment of the existing utility covers and manholes to match the new roadway and pavement grade. The utilities affected include gas, electrical, sanitary sewer, water, cable, communication and fiber optics.
CSG project team was led by Lawrence Lau and included Cesar Caronongan and Michael Fisher who supported the project from 2019 through completion in 2025.
The APWA Project of the Year recognizes excellence in the delivery of public works projects and the collaboration among the public agency, consultant team, and contractor. This recognition reflects the coordinated effort required to deliver improvements at a complex, heavily traveled intersection while maintaining access for the surrounding community.
CSG congratulates the City of Santa Clara, HDR Engineering, Inc., and the entire project team on this well-deserved recognition.
